چکیده

Group theoretical methods are used to study the equations describing x :x (2) cascading. The equations are shown not to be integrable by inverse scattering techniques. On the other hand, these equations do share some of the nice properties of soliton equations. Large families of explicit analytical solutions are obtained in terms of elliptic functions. In special cases, these periodic solutions reduce to localized ones, i.e., solitary waves. All previously known explicit solutions are recovered, and many additional ones are obtained. @S1063-651X~98!06207-2#

Nonlinear waves and related nonintegrable and integrable systems

Spectral method related to Lamé equation with finite-gap potential is used to study the optical cascading equations. These equations are known not to be integrable by inverse scattering method. Due to ”partial integrability” two-gap solutions are obtained in terms of products of elliptic functions and are classified in five different families related to eigenvalues of appropriate spectral probl...

Spatial optical solitons resulting from multistep cascading.

We introduce a novel class of parametric optical solitons supported simultaneously by two second-order nonlinear cascading processes, second-harmonic generation and sum-frequency mixing. We obtain analytical and numerical solutions for three-wave spatial solitons and show that the presence of an additional cascading mechanism can change dramatically the properties and stability of two-wave quad...

Quadratic Solitons in Cubic Crystals

Starting from the Maxwell’s equations and without resort to the paraxial approximation, we derive equations describing stationary (1+1)-dimensional beams propagating at an arbitrary direction in an optical crystal with cubic symmetry and purely quadratic (χ) nonlinearity. The equations are derived separately for beams with the TE and TM polarizations. In both cases, they contain χ and cubic (χ)...

Two-color multistep cascading and parametric soliton-induced waveguides.

We introduce the concept of two-color multistep cascading for vectorial parametric wave mixing in optical media with quadratic (second-order or chi(2)) nonlinear response. We demonstrate that the multistep cascading allows light-guiding-light effects with quadratic spatial solitons. With the help of the so-called "almost exact" analytical solutions, we describe the properties of parametric wave...

Multistep cascading and fourth-harmonic generation

A concept of multistep cascading is applied to the problem of fourth-harmonic generation (FHG) in a single quadratic crystal, and a new model of parametric wave mixing is analyzed in detail. Important applications to the optical frequency division and efficient FHG as well as the realization of the double-phase-matching multistep cascading processes in engineered QPM structures with phase-rever...
